A Father's Advice - Part 3

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious and Most Compassionate

Dear Izzat

Peace be upon you.

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate you for your achievement in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia. I might have not done justice to you but, I was not expecting you to get such flying colours, really. And the sms you sent me, I have safely stored and kept in the Saved Messages in my handphone for as long as time shall permits.

The time has now come Izzat, for you to take yet another step forward towards achieving your ambition. You are now an undergraduate at a university where life will be different from what you have gone through thus far. You will be on your own now. Mama and I will of course be available whenever you need us but since our physical distance will be further, the more independant you will need to become.

Anyway, do not worry too much. Distance will make our hearts grow fonder. Beside being more independent, I hope you will learn to be more patient and appreciate the presence of your family members. Being a father, I know your character very well. You being the third child in the family, has always wanted to be out from Enol's and Muaz's shadows. You want Mama and I to trust and notice you. Oh yes we did but well, we have our own way to handle our children. One thing is for sure Izzat, we care and love all our children very much, equally and fairly.

I remember when you were a small boy, you had asked me to buy you a cap. After a few days, your request was till not been met and what did you do? That night when I came back from work, I saw the word "topi" all over the house. The wall, the floor, the main door, in the bathroom, everywhere. I was at first very annoyed, but later I found out that it was funny and I knew very much that you are a person of persistence. Having said that, I want you to understand that not everything a man desires he achieves. Often the winds blow in unfavourable directions for the ships. Therefore, prepare yourself with all the challenges that you will encounter, starting with those coming your way during this university student's life. Face them with courage and believe in Allah SWT. Nevertheless, even though you cannot expect the winds blow in your favour always, you can still and have to adjust your sails in order for your ship to reach your destiny safely.

Izzat,

Focus your mind, time and energy to what you are suppose to do - study and learn more about what life is. Often people say that tertiary education is not all about gaining academic knowledge alone. It is the knowledge of life that is utmost important. You will meet friends and unimates from all over the country who come from many different backgrounds. You have to adapt fast and be in control. Do not let situations and circumstances be the better of you. Be a good friend to them and insya Allah, they will be good to you too.

Finally Izzat,

As what I have told Enol and Muaz , please remember Mama always. Though you may be busy with your studies and other commitments, call her frequently and tell her that you miss her. I have always told you and let me remind you again, that mother's love is the greatest love of all. Mama's love towards her children is borderless. And most important of all, your heaven lies beneath her two feet.

Study hard, play hard and pray hard. When things are going tough for you, seek guidance from Allah SWT, ask for His forgiveness always and insya Allah, no problem so difficult to solve. And when you are happy, offer your syukur to Him so that He shall always bless you with more.

I wish you all the best and take care.

Love you,

Abah.
